Sum Sum Summertime

It is a busy time of year here on the Beech Farm. We have just finished putting up our first cutting of hay and are in the throws of harvesting strawberries and lavender. Feel pretty blessed to get to help my mom out with her lavender crop this year. (Check out her Etsy site : http://www.etsy.com/shop/paulajeansgarden?ref=pr_shop) It has been a strange summer, with all the rain of the spring...everything is behind schedule.

The pace of the last few weeks has been so hectic we have hardly had a moment to slow down. Life has a way of catching your attention every now and again, and recent events have really impressed upon me to enjoy every single moment.

My handsome husband was on the wrong end of a horse accident last week. He sustained a concussion and other minor injuries.More tests are coming this week which will hopefully let us know what we are dealing with.  While there have been moments we have been able to laugh at, the seriousness of head injuries has been brought to the forefront of my mind, and taking safety precautions is so warranted. So while my children may still roll their eyes at my consistent harping regarding helmets, they are presently aware of how quickly things can happen.

While summer brings so many things to our family "to-do" list, I want to slow things down, make sure we are enjoying our time here on this big round planet. Enjoy some homemade lavender lemonade, take walks in the warm evenings, star gaze together, enjoy an occasional motorcycle ride or a hike with a friend. We don't know how long we have been given. I hope you are finding the time to enjoy the moment and those you love! Happy Summer!

Let The Wild Ruckus Begin

With only two weeks left of school, my kids are getting excited. The mornings are full of lots of ruckus! So the loud hooting and hollering as they ran for the bus did not catch me by surprise, until we looked out the window and saw what all the to-do was about.

There was our Boar happily following them down the driveway to the bus stop. The kids were obviously concerned for his safety but were not about to miss the bus. I give extra chores for that...but would have let this one slide ;) No amount of hollering would deter Boris and he watched his "friends" leave on the bus then made his way back down toward the house.

This mornings antics seemed a perfect beginning to the fun of the summer season for our family. Summertime is what we wish for all year long. Time by the river, bbq's, picnics, working in the fields, and the long day light hours we enjoy in the north. So I say "Let the Wild Ruckus Begin! (Now if only the weather would cooperate!)
