I was excited to be able to decorate for special occasions in our new home. I have been asked why we celebrate Halloween, and I guess it is because I am just a kid at heart. Some of my fondest memories growing up were of Halloween. My parents made it special, and it is a time I can remember my Mama running through the streets with me and could see the kid she must have been. I couldn't have been more than nine or ten and I have a memory of her dressed as a "witchy poo" my brother and I following her with our Halloween pails full of goodies. I remember her cape flapping in the wind, the moon shining down, her laughter ringing through the crisp night as as we made our way back home, to check out what we had gotten and drink a little hot cocoa. The magic of the night for me is in the memories I have of her and all the wonderful mystery childhood holds before the veil of time reveals reality.
I love the way cheese cloth drapes. I used it in place of the "fake" spider webbing. You can kind of see I still placed a little spider in the corner.
..and it wouldn't be Halloween without references to one of my favorite movies!
My little handmade vintage gal with her harvest basket full! I love bringing out special decorations year after year!
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.' Gotta love a little Poe on O' Hallows Eve!

In order to keep my entry way functional, yet inviting, I went with very simple here. This area tends to be busy and chaotic with all the comings and going. .
We don't carve our pumpkins until a few days before Halloween! This way they last. I have 4 pumpkins for the kids to carve and then three small ones to represent the kids who do not live at home... so sad when they grow up!
I don't care for a lot of muss and fuss on the kitchen table! My table is also now a brilliant red lol... so the orange and black of Halloween kind of clash. I decided a little blackbird would be just fine to make my harvest basket greet the month of October!
Can you see the little bird hidden in the basket? It used to be my Grandmothers!
Caw! Caw! Caw!
Blackbirds and White Pumpkins
Halloween wouldn't be right without a little copper "cauldron"
(Actually it's just a little pot! :)

My kids love the spider webbing!
I hope you have enjoyed my little bit of Halloween! I'll be adding more ideas as I get them finished over the course of the month! So, please check back in!
